Apple Pie Recipe

What are you looking for in an apple pie recipe? When I initially offered to make a homemade apple pie for my family's Thanksgiving a few years ago, I scoured the internet for the best recipe.

I wanted the filling to be juicy, but not so much that the pie wouldn't slice. I wanted it to be warmly spiced with cinnamon and infused with lemon for a bright, tangy flavor.

The finest apple pie recipe would produce slices thick enough to withstand a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, as well as a flaky, buttery crust that was simple to prepare.

That year, I couldn't find an apple pie recipe that I believed would turn out exactly the way I wanted, so I decided to make my own.

Since then, I've carefully tested and refined this recipe, and it's become my favorite.

A pile of soft apple slices fills a gorgeous golden brown crust. I cooked it for a family event a few weeks back, and there were no leftover slices. Fingers crossed, you won't have one either.

Apples, of course! Use nice baking apples that will maintain their shape when cooked. See my favorites below! Peel and finely slice them before stuffing.

Apple pie spice - This combination of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cardamom lends a warm, spicy flavor to the filling.
